Vacation Quilts

 One of the fun things that has become a tradition for me, is that when my husband and I travel, I try to find fabric that is specific to that area and make something with it. For me it is a great way to remember a vacation. I also collect Christmas ornaments, but that is another post.  It all started a few years ago when my quilting and sewing took off. My husband has a very busy job, so having a vacation to look forward to is something he loves. I can’t complain, he is a fantastic partner to travel with.  One vacation we were down in savanna and Hilton head. While in Hilton head I found a quilt shop that had fabric specifically made for Hilton head. There was a fun quilt kit so I purchased it.  Another vacation we were at the Oregon coast. Let's start at the beginning

       I grew up the youngest in a very creative family. My oldest sister sewed most of my clothes through out my growing up. I also took home ec classes through school. I was comfortable with a sewing machine,  but usually relied on my sisters to do any major sewing for me.       When I married and had kids that changed. I needed to start doing for myself.  The first good sewing machine that I purchased was the Bernina activa 220. I still have her, she is a fantastic and durable machine.  I have had her for about 20 years.                                                  About three years ago my husband took a job that has a living in two different states.
